MCN Performance - Volunteers Needed!
Greetings fellow Malaysians!
The Malaysian Cultural Night is arriving in less than 2 months' time and the performances division is looking for members who are interested to join the more artistic and cultural side of the event. We welcome anyone who would like to be a part of the acting, dancing, or even prop-making crew for the event. We will start most of the work by February, so we would appreciate it if responses could come within the next week.

Housing available
I'll be moving out of my current apartment by May this year, and I need to find people to a) sublet this spring/summer, and b) either sublet or take over my lease for the next academic year.
Address: 905 Church St, Apt 1 (first floor studio in an apartment-house) Rent: $650/month (Water, heat and electricity included) Parking: 1 spot behind the house, if you're not using it go ahead and rent it out Amenities: Private kitchen and bathroom, fully furnished. Apartment is half-carpeted; the kitchen has tiled floors. 2 small storage closets in the unit. Internet/TV: AT&T and Comcast (I think) ready Misc: No smoking indoors, no pets allowed. Security Deposit (sublet only): $650
The apartment is at the junction of Church and Hill, making it a really close walk to the Business School, or anywhere on central campus for that matter. Neighbors and the other tenants are mostly a quiet bunch; I haven't had any problems with them thus far. I'll be out of the place by April 27th this semester, which means subletters won't be left in leasing limbo.
Interested parties can email me (shuenhon@gmail.com) to take a look at the place or if they would like more information.

We are asking you as leaders of minority organizations at the University of Michigan because the National Donor Registry desperately needs increased numbers of registered minority donors. Everyday, 6,000 people search the National Marrow Donor Registry for a tissue match necessary for a lifesaving bone marrow transplant. Most of the patients do not find donors and the odds are particularly grim for patients of non-Caucasian descent. If you are at all interested, please e-mail me, Tiffany Chen or Hannah Anderson-Knight, and we will gladly explain the drive in more detail as well as what you can do to help. Malaysians in the US
Before the end of the semester, we have a treat for all of you! Some of you just started your semester here in Michigan, some of you had been here for some time, but all of us definitely had gone through the bittersweet times of transiting from Malaysian culture to the American culture. Therefore, we'd like to bring together all of you to meet with a (or some) Malaysian(s) who have gone through it all.
A (few, maybe) Malaysian(s) from the Malaysian Association at Michigan (MAM) will be coming down to Ann Arbor to share their experiences being a Malaysian, living in the US.
Some of us will meet up at CC Little and walk to Palmer Commons, and you can feel free to join us!
Refreshments provided You should come because: - meet with other Malaysians, - learn about others' experiences, - network for career opportunities, - learn about MAM, - and so many other reason......
Winter Traditions Festival
Every year, the UM Engineering Council with collaboration with other organizations host this festival of festivals. It's a time where everyone share about their traditional holidays. And this year, UMiMSA is taking part! We'll be opening a booth to talk about Kongsi Raya (consisting of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Hari Raya Aidiladha, Chinese New Year and Deepavali).
"Winter Traditions Festival" Date: Wednesday, Dec 2nd, 2009 7:00pm Venue: Stamps Auditorium (North Campus)
On that day, many organizations will open booths, have performances or presentations, and even serve food that they usually serve during their holidays. So don't forget to stop by our booth (and others')!
Malaysian Cultural Night (see attached pdf) It's coming! And you can definitely help out! Be part of the planning committee: fundraising; publicity; booth & games, performances, logistics & multimedia. The attached pdf file explains the basics. For more information, email our project director, Jian Wei Ang.

Multicultural Presidential Symposium (MCPS)
Next semester, we (Presidents of various multicultural organizations) will hold Multicultural Presidential Symposium where we will be able to voice our concerns regarding international students to the University. Most of the officials of the University (including the Presidents, the Regents, and the Division of Student Affairs board) will be attending the symposium to listen and discuss the problems of international students voiced by presidents from various multicultural student associations.
Therefore, from today onwards, if you have any concerns that you'd like to voice out but are not able to do so orally to any of the board members, feel free to do so online. Also, you don't even need to give me your name, so it'll be completely anonymous!
Keep in mind that you can also always talk to me if you'd like to share anything. If you have further questions regarding MCPS, feel free to email Hamidah. |

Malaysian Cultural Night
Hey!
Upon request, MCN is back again! As this academic year's MCN Project Director, allow me to spell out some broad goals that I have for this event:
1) Making it more capital intensive than labour intensive - It goes without saying that MCN is very time consuming. Therefore we should definitely consider cutting back on labour at every opportunity possible and outsource it. This implies that an enormous responsibility [more so than before] would fall on the Funding Committee to raise more capital to enable such an option.
2) Something new - We are not in a hurry to finalize our performances, at least FOR NOW. So let's flirt with new ideas and toy with new concepts that we haven't done for a long time.
3) Freshmen and Sophomores - Though it must be made clear that MCN is a club-wide initiative, an extra emphasis would be place in getting the freshmen and sophomores to step up to the plate in organizing/coordinating the event. This would provide ample of opportunities for the "younger ones" to acquaint themselves with the proceedings of one of UMIMSA's largest event.
Those are the rough guides for now. You shall be getting a PDF file on more DETAILED description of the event soon enough!
The first meeting will be held this SUNDAY, NOV 8, 5PM at MASON HALL (meet up at Posting Wall). Sign up for committee leaders, volunteers, performers, cooks, helpers and much much more! You will determine how MCN will be this year, so come join us!
Take care! Questions, email to: Jian Wei Ang

Malaysian self-funded students survey
I'm an Alum (BSE Mech Engin, 2007) currently at McKinsey working on a study in Malaysia and was wondering if any of you would be interested to fill out this survey, and if you could forward to the rest of the Malaysian community at UM - basically we would like to better understand your decision to study abroad as part of a study on education services in Malaysia.
